A poem about burnout, since I’ve been experiencing it since March 31 (the day I found out I was accepted to Princeton University) and just want to be done with school already.

The grease from your elbow pours into the frying pan
Can’t start to stop, can’t give up now
How? Seems like the burners rise to the highest setting
Forgetting it’s human
Doing and undoing the work submitted
Omitting the fact that the stove appeared
Here to control yourself, control that restless heart,
Part of yours that pours into the frying pan
Can you smell the burnt defeat?
The feat you so affectionately call burn out?
Thank you for being you!
